1. Expanding family literacy through promoting the Avance-El Paso model of ESL programs and increasing UTEP student ESL tutoring and use of the website of the Paso del Norte Literacy Council.
2. Strengthening the Nonprofit Enterprise Center's ability to build community capacity by increasing its membership base, obtaining new funding sources, and undertaking joint activities with the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE).
3. Streamlining and institutionalizing CCE operations by increasing internal operational support, integrating a University-wide reporting structure, writing about university-community engagement, and integrating service-learning more thoroughly into the University through mechanisms such as required first-year courses, tracking students for retention, and “border-engaged research" mini-grants for faculty.
